Open Source LIMS Update: SENAITE 2.6 is out

SENAITE, the Enterprise grade Free and Open Source Laboratory Management software has today announced a major upgrade, with a raft of changes that will bring the Plone based platform one step closer to Python 3 support.

What is changing

For clients using the software this will mean updates to workflows and enhancements and new features like the introduction of Limit of Quantification and improved uncertainty values as well as better performance. Some changes will have visual UX updates but most will mean updates to workflows and improvements under the hood.

How to upgrade

For anyone considering the upgrade, contributors have asked that implementers set aside sufficient time as forty content types, including SampleType and AnalysisProfile will need to be migrated. It will be important to consider database size for migration time because migrations will scale proportionally.

In order to ensure data protection, contributors have requested that implementers satisfy some pre-requirements before commencing the upgrade, including:

  • Compact and back up database.

  • Clean log files.

  • Stop any non-essential services to free up server memory.

The Release Notes are available here in their entirety. As Free and Open Source software SENAITE relies on a thriving community, so to answer any questions please head to: https://community.senaite.org/
